  15. What do you think about the book and what life message does it teach? I enjoyed the book but I thought it was dark and depressing. Bryon and Mark had a tough life from the very beginning and it only became tougher as they became older. They had to deal with dysfunctional families, drugs, drinking, violence and gangs. The message that I took away from the book is that you can change the direction of your life but you have to have courage to make the change. Some decisions are not easy to make especially if they involve your friends but you still have to make the right choices. As you get older you realize that everything isn't just about you, there are consequences to your actions and how you behave really does effect how people treat you, what they think about you and more importantly how it affects your future.
